I Hear You're Looking For a Way to Spend Your Moebucks
Have you thought about sparing a few for democracy?
If you’re in the first half of Saskatchewan residents to have received your cheque, there’s many ways you can spend your $500 Moebucks.
But have you thought about on the future of news and information in Saskatchewan?
Cause we are continuing to plummet towards rock bottom on both counts.
Like virtually every good reporter we’ve ever had in Saskatchewan, we’ve just lost the glorious Mickey Djuric from the Canadian Press, who is now heading back to Ontario to do great things.
Before her it was Stephanie Taylor. Arthur Crumney-White, David Baxter, Creeson Agecoutay, David Fraser - the list goes on and on of journalists who arguably cut their teeth in Saskatchewan and then inevitably moved on to bigger, better, less claustrophobic news markets.
When they left, they took their professional and historical memory of events, intel and observations related to all things Saskatchewan with them, including to the pandemic. Now consider all the other reporters and stories that have come and gone over the years.
Imagine today being new to Saskatchewan, trying to learn the complicated backstories on the many issues we’re facing, while trying to shuffle through the monumental amount of lies, misinformation and other obstructions the Saskatchewan government puts up to hide who they really are and what they’re really doing.
Or, Sask Party MLAs just run the news outlets themselves.
Not only do you get to pay Sask Party MLA Terry Jansen’s salary with your tax dollars, you get to back his business with them too.
I could continue, but I won’t.
Everyone knows the truth and the facts are not getting easier to find in Saskatchewan.
Many of you are generously donating your $500 cheques to worthy charities in Saskatchewan, particularly those helping vulnerable people. Please, if that’s your inclination, carry on as planned.
I also see you donating the cheques to the Saskatchewan NDP. Again, if that’s where you think those dollars best serve democracy, continue to give generously. I mean, it can’t make things worse. I don’t think.
However if you’re looking to go in a different direction. I’ve set up a “founding member” plan on this site to park your $500 Moebucks, if you’re so inclined. It’ll get you a lifetime subscription to… me.
Being the most vocal, intense critic of the Saskatchewan government is a lot. The research involved in getting the facts straight is labour-intensive and becoming more so every day, as governments at all levels continue to flail, obfuscate and crumble.
Trying to keep up with the tsunami of bullshit coming out of the Saskatchewan government is now my fulltime job and it’s not making me rich, which is fine.
That’s not why I do it, but I do.
I’m still here and I’m not going anywhere (sorry).
So if you want to stick it to Scott Moe while trying to help keep facts alive around here for the sake of the future of this province, consider using your Moebucks to become a lifetime patron of Our Sask. There’s so much more I can and will do as this audience grows and I hire more researchers, etc., which is the plan.
Plus let’s face it, the last thing Scott Moe wants you to do is use it to keep empowering me to tell more stories about him.
I don’t know how to tell you to do the upgrade if you’re inclined, but I think if you go into your Substack library and find OurSask, you’ll find the option of managing your subscription there.
What you’ll get is me, for life. This site, whatever I put out in future, including podcasts and my books (which I’m very likely going to publish online as well)… you’ll get in on all of it on first and free. Plus, I’ll sure appreciate you. 😊
Don’t worry, I’m pretty sure I won’t have a problem keeping track of all four of you who take me up on the offer. 😎 Which is totally fine too.
We’ll talk to you all tomorrow as usual, regardless.
