New From Me: Prelude To a Grift
A new chapter on my new Substack, dedicated to revisiting the history of Saskatchewan politics in the Nineties.
Hi everyone,
Still just getting the hang of cross-promoting new Substack publications, so forgive me for the uptick in emails you’ve been receiving from this writer lately.
I just really wanted to let you know that I just published a new chapter on my new Substack, dedicated to revisiting the history of Saskatchewan politics in the Nineties.
As Saskatchewan today hurtles towards another contentious provincial election, I’ve found the historical information about that period in our province’s history more and more relevant and important.
The actions, schemes and stunts pulled by Grant Devine’s desperate governing PC Party, particularly during the death throes of its second term, are chillingly similar to what we’re seeing out of the Sask Party today.
The harassment and bullying of individuals seen as a threat to the party is a big one, for example.
This stuff matters, because it’s unreal how many of the same people who perpetrated Devine’s destructive, toxic behaviour still work for, or at least highly influence the Sask Party government today.
Because we’ve been duped.
I don’t know how else to put it, Saskatchewan.
That’s what happened.
In no world should Saskatchewan be where it is today: devoid of cohesive identity, empathy, inclusive culture or even mutual respect. We were thoroughly convinced, by corrupted and toxic political actors who had everything to gain, that the best way for Saskatchewan to move forward was by completely ignoring where it had been, or how it got there.
Figuring that out is the only way to change what happens next.
So I encourage you, if you can, to join me on this trip back in time.
It doesn’t hurt, promise. In fact, there’s some positively hopeful stops along the way, that might make you wonder if we can still turn this place around.
Thanks, as always, for being here, wherever you are.
