Me again.
I am emailing today because I’m thrilled to announce the launch of my newest Substack, Saskatchewan in the Nineties: From Devine’s Debacle to the Dawn of the Sask Party.
The Introduction chapter is free and open to everyone:
It's a journey back in time to a pivotal decade in Saskatchewan's history, one that shaped the political landscape we see today. Written with an eye for detail, this Substack aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of a transformative period for Saskatchewan. Together we’ll delve into the intricacies of these changes, offering an accessible yet thorough examination of the era.
I set out to unravel the complexities surrounding the political environment of the 1990s, including its significant political figures, the rise and fall of political parties, and key policy decisions that defined the era. From the austerity measures imposed in the early part of the decade to the development of new political ideologies and structures, we’ll look at it all.
What sets this new Substack apart from many other works on Saskatchewan is its perspective. While political and historical in nature, my hope is the work will be engaging and accessible to a broad audience, whether you are a student of political science, a history enthusiast, or someone simply interested in the affairs and stories of Saskatchewan.
The goal was to dissect not just the 'what' but the 'why' behind the decisions and events of that decade.
I have compiled data, conducted interviews and analyzed contemporary news reports and archival materials to ensure that the information will be as accurate and comprehensive as possible. We’ll comb through a tapestry of narratives that provide a balanced view of the era, which has not been presented to date.
Creating this new Substack has been a labor of love and deep curiosity.
It is my hope that you will find the journey both informative and engaging, offering a fresh perspective on an era that played a crucial role in shaping modern Saskatchewan.
So, I invite you to embark on this journey with me, to rediscover the politics of the Nineties, and to gain a richer understanding of the forces that crafted the Saskatchewan we know today.
I’m even going to open up the comments (for now, we’ll see how it goes).
Thank you so much, as always, for your ongoing readership and support.
