Sask Government Advertising Is Unmitigated and Out of Control
And Saskatchewan media, private advertising agencies, Elections Saskatchewan and more are all playing a role in propping up this full-blown attack on democracy. When is enough going to be enough?
The state of journalism in Saskatchewan today is abysmal.
Contrary to how it might sound, that is not the fault of local reporters, who are working in newsrooms that have been shaved to the bone. I think most of them are trying to do their best with what they have left to work with.
Long gone are the days when Saskatchewan newsrooms had reporters assigned to only cover one issue, whether City Hall, the provincial government, court dockets, public education, crime or agriculture. In fact, many newsrooms had multiple journalists on one issue, or beat, enabling them to build up personal memory and historical context for what they were reporting on, which made for better news coverage for Saskatchewan audiences.
For example, consider the story of Speaker Randy Weekes now infamous walk-off speech and the revelation that Jeremy Harrison carried a hunting rifle into the Legislature. Harrison has now participated in a few media interviews in the weeks since the Speaker lobbed that grenade.
